Cruising

Candlewood members have a variety of cruising boats that race using the PHRF handicap system. This levels the playing field when boats of different classes and speeds race against each other.

Bey Rutherford is the fleet captain.

The PHRF rating is part of the Time Correction Factor (TCF), which is multiplied by the boat's finish time to get a corrected time. Faster boats have a lower PHRF rating, and slower boats have a higher rating. Another component of the TCF depends on the wind speed for that particular race. The ratings for the different boats are listed below. The TCF listed is for average wind conditions. The third column indicates, for a one-hour race, approximately how many minutes the Beneteau needs to beat you by to win. The difference in time between any two boats gives the approximate time the faster boat needs to beat the slower boat to win.
