Flying Scots

Flying Scot Fleet 24 is celebrating 59 years at Candlewood Yacht Club, originally chartered in 1966. We’re proud of the Flying Scot heritage and our history with Candlewood Yacht Club.

Our Fleet Captain is Doug Main. Doug has been sailing and racing Flying Scots since joining CYC in 2015. Before purchasing his Flying Scot, Doug had been sailing recreationally since childhood, primarily in Sunfish and the Pintail his father bought in the early '70s.

Our Fleet is located in the Greater New York District. Our District Governor, Mark Riefenhauser, is a member of CYC. Mark has been sailing and racing Flying Scots since the mid 70’s. He is available to help find a Flying Scot for you and help set it up, and may even crew occasionally for you!
Sandy Douglass’s first Flying Scot hit the water in 1957. Since then, over 6000 Flying Scots have been constructed. The Flying Scot is in the American Sailboat Hall of Fame.
The Flying Scot Association serves as the governing body for the class.
Regardless of how old or new your Flying Scot is, they are pretty much equal, thanks to the one-design rules the FSSA follows.
Flying Scot Inc. is the builder. Carrie and Tyler Andrews lead the factory team in Deep Creek, Maryland. They provide all kinds of services in support of the Flying Scot and the Flying Scot Sailing Association.
